What’s inspiring me today.

The dress that closed the Narciso Rodriguez show, S/S 2005.

I have always been a big, BIG fan of Rodriguez.  In fact, I remember writing letters to him and Victor Alfaro back in college when they were up-and-coming designers.  I loved their play on proportions and body-conscious tailoring.

I was picking some earrings from my bulletin board this morning and noticed a photograph I had cut out from a magazine.  It was of Natasha Poly wearing a gorgeous  Rodriquez dress in billowing silk with a cropped corset.  I was reminded of how much I loved it.  So I thought I would share!

There are so many shades of crimson and orange in this photograph, I hardly know what to do with myself.

What’s inspiring me today.

Vintage Lord & Taylor advertisements.

I had to share these ads, as I pulled them from a fashion book last year for window concepting at work.  Our graphic designer blew them up to poster size and although we didn’t land on using them, I got to take them home.  They are now framed in our living room.  You all know how much I love free art!  And, these are not in print so they’re totally unique.  And, I must say, totally me.

Wooden lay figures.

I use these for more than sketching.  My figure at my desk at work (as you can see above) moves around quite a bit.  Right now he’s hanging out with Einstein, who resides in my dying plant.  At home I use two to hold jewelry.  The arms are perfect for shorter necklaces and larger rings.  You can find them for around 8 bucks at IKEA.

What’s inspiring me today.

Daft Punk, live.

GOOD GOD it’s been busy in my world.  I’ve been bouncing between my studio and my computer screen for two days, and Daft Punk’s Alive album has kept me going through the hours of photo editing I’ve been stuck with tonight.

If you’ve never heard DP live I highly recommend listening to this album.

Also, I just have to say, nothing makes me happier than mobs of people dancing.  Seriously.

What’s inspiring me today.

Sesame seeds.

Words can’t describe my love for sesame seeds (hello, sesame seed bagels!).  I find myself incorporating them into many of my dishes, both savory and sweet.

In fact, one of my favorite easy-as-pie recipes is cucumber salad.  I chop up some cucumbers, add a dash of sesame oil and rice wine vinegar, toss and top with toasted sesame seeds.  It makes a great appetizer, side or light meal – and it’s very low in fat/calories.

The Kitchn featured the small but potent ingredient in a recent post.  I suggest taking a look at the recipes they’ve provided.

And, never forget, the smallest ingredients are often the most exciting (and delicious).
