F/W 2009 RTW – Twenty8Twelve

February 23, 2009

I took a break from the shows, as you can tell – and I missed some big ones (Philip Lim and Ralph Lauren, who showed a BEAUTIFUL collection, come to mind).  However, I’d like to take this opportunity to make a confession.

My friends, I am an unabashed Sienna Miller fan.

Love her.  Love the girl.  I think she’s cool, I think she’s beautiful, I love her style, I want to be her.

She and her sister showed their first runway show for their line Twenty8Twelve this season.  It was, by no means, the most spectactular show.  However, I have high hopes for this line.  I’ve seen some pieces in person and I have, by-in-large, liked what I have seen.

The show was fairly basic, but what I like about this collection is the attention paid to proportion, an often overlooked element of apparel design and styling.

Also, if you have not seen Miller in the Steve Buscemi-directed Interview.  I beg of you, rent it.  It’s brilliant.

Dustin Lance Black – My Favorite Oscars Speech

February 23, 2009

I live in California and am still very, very angry about Proposition 8 passing last fall. Having attended the weddings of two very close friends last past year, it was particularly hard to take. And, seeing Milk really drove home how things have stayed the same as much as they’ve changed.

I thought Dustin Lance Black’s speech at the Oscars last night was sweet and inspiring.

Plastic Recommendation – Bottle Shock

February 9, 2009

Okay, so I realize I may be biased here….I grew up in Northern California, I attended UCD (which has a brilliant viticulture program) and I LOVE wine.  But, this movie is rad.  Beautiful landscapes, good subject, awesome 70’s southern rock music.

I took my dad to see it last Father’s Day and we totally fell in love.  It’s like Phenomenon (also set in Sonoma); he and I spent so much time driving through that area when I was a kid – Navarro, Healdsburg, Calistoga, Napa, Sonoma……it just takes me back!

See it.  Trust.

Also, I am thinking of doing a post on throwing a wine tasting party for newbies on a budget, thoughts?

My Summer Of Love

January 24, 2009

I found this montage from My Summer of Love put to an Emiliana Torrini song and I just about DIED (as Rachel Zoe would say).  I am totally on a Torrini kick right now and My Summer of Love is one of my favorite movies.  Seriously, if you like Emily Blunt and you haven’t seen this movie…..you kind of suck.  It’s fucking awesome.  Sexy, hypnotic, somewhat dark.  Montage and movie trailer follow.
